Reno's story at EFM Machinery

Eleven years ago, Reno started at EFM Machinery as a 16-year-old with no technical experience. Today, he independently programs complete machine lines and is already cautiously thinking about his next step within the company. Time to tell Reno's story.

"I really couldn't do anything yet"

"Yeah really, nothing," Reno says with a laugh as he thinks back to his very first working day. His first task? Drilling holes. "I had to drill M12, so I thought: then I'll just drill with 12 mm. Everything of course way too big..."

This typifies how his journey began: learning by doing and making mistakes. In the beginning, his working day consisted mainly of asking questions: how to do this, what is that, why does it work this way? He now carries out projects independently in the workshop.

From welding to programmer

Reno started with simple odd jobs and grew to become a programmer. About six years ago, besides welding and building panels, he delved into programming. "I immediately found it interesting," he says.

What makes Reno unique is how he developed. He learned programming through courses and mostly by learning from colleagues. "Everyone here has taught me something. Milling and turning are actually the only two things I don't do."

The route to mechatronics

How he joined the company is also special. Through his aunt, who had a line out to Carlo, he started working at EFM. Originally, he wanted to become a car mechanic and had even enrolled in that course. But after two weeks at EFM, he knew enough: this is my place. He switched to Mechatronics training, which he successfully completed.

The power of EFM: cosy and full of opportunities

How does Reno describe the atmosphere at EFM? "Cosy, challenging and a bit crazy." But above all: a place where you can grow. Not a massive company, but a close-knit club where everyone helps each other, where there is laughter and where you can really grow.

His greatest pride? "That I can programme. I really never expected that." But EFM's growth also makes him proud. "When I started, we were really just another company. What we do now, the projects we run... I'm really proud of that."

And the future?

Meanwhile, his interest is also in the commercial side. "Maybe I want to learn something more with sales. That seems cool."

"When you find your niche, you grow naturally."
